Origins of the Norse

Welcome to Abbott’s Inn Norse Tradition 9! We’re so glad you could make it! Do check out the other Abbott’s Inn Norse Tradition groups on other networks. Sorry to have been gone so long, but for some months we had computer issues. Now we both have computers, and our cell phones go on the Internet. Tegwedd prefers to use her computer to go on the Internet. Easier to read. She also thinks going on the Internet may cost extra, and she pays enough for her cell as it is.

Norse mythology is the overall term for the myths, legends, and beliefs about supernatural beings by the Norse people. During the early middle ages and continuing down to the Norse Viking renaissance of the present day, the Norse myths continue to be enjoyed. Norse mythology is the study of the stories told in the Scandinavian countries; Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands during the pre-Christian period. The Germanic peoples which gave rise to the Scandinavian people was but one wave of Indo-European peoples who left Iran between 35 and 40 centuries ago. They also came from Scythia on the steppes. They taught the rest of the world horsemanship. Tegwedd looked up the map of the IE migrations and traced their routes from Iran and Scythia, and saw how they went to Italia, thence to Germania, and Scandinavia.

Most of the existing records of Norse mythology date from the 11th through the 18th centuries. In the 18th to early to mid 19th centuries there was a widespread romantic movement all over Europe, where people explored their cultural heritages. The Germanic and Scandinavian countries were no exception. Research was done into the old sagas, as well as the Eddas. This reminds Tegwedd of a Robert Larson (Terlach) story. A couple of missionaries came to the door. Terlach disappeared into his room and came out in full Viking gear. He thundered in his full baritone voice: “Have you read your Eddas today?” The missionaries fled. Isaac and Stephen nearly hurt themselves laughing.

Most of the existing records on Norse mythology date from the 11th to 18th centuries, having gone through more than 12 centuries of oral transmission in what was then an officially Pagan society. At this point, scholars started to record it, particularly the Eddas and the Heimskringla, by Snorri Sturlson, who believed that the Pagan deities retraced real historical people. Danorium Sax--Grammite where are the Norse gods more euphemized. The Prose or Younger Edda was written in the early 13th century by Snorri Snurlson, who was a leading skald, chieftain, and diplomat in Iceland. It may be thought of primarily as a handbook for aspiring skalds. It contains prose kennings, or compressed metaphors found in poetry. These prose retellings of the Norse gods make the various tales systematic and coherent. The poetic or Elder Edda about 50 years later was committed to writing about 50 years later consists of 29 long poems about gods and Germanic heroes like Sigurd de Volsung or Siegfried Nibelungenlied. Although scholars call it the Edlder Edda, they believe that it was transcribed later than the Younger Edda.

The Germanic peoples wandered all over Europe, even in Italy, where they derived the Runes from the Etruscan alphabet. Finally hey settled in Germania, and some wandered into Scandinavia to become the Norse. The Germanic peoples, with the large scale population growth they were experiencing, went up into what is now Scandinavia in the 7th century BCE. They had trade with the Roman Empire; trading in slaves, gold, salt, and hides. In the 5th century CE, with the slow collapse of the formerly powerful western Roman empire, they took advantage of the ensuing chaos by starting to raid settlements. This is the true start of the Viking era.

Although it was thought to have been composed earlier, the Prose or Younger Edda is thought by the style of the poetry to have been transcribed later than the Poetic or Elder Edda. Besides the these sources, there were surviving sources legends in Norse folklore which can be corelated with other Germanic literature, eg the tale related in Finsburgh and the many allusions to tales in Deur. When several popular references and tales survive, scholars can deduce the tale. Additionally, there are hundreds of Nordic place names named after the gods. A few Runic inscriptions and the Rork Kvinnab amulet, make references to the mythology. There are also several runestones and image stones that depict scenes from Norse mythology such as Thor’r fishing trip. Scenes depicting Sigurd the Dragonslayer, Odin and Sleipnir, Odin being devoured by Firler, and one of the surviving stones from the Hunnestad monument appears to show Hyrrokken riding to Baldir’s funeral. In Denmark, one image stone depicts Loki sporting a dandy-like mustache and his mouth sewn together. Then the British Gorsedd Floss shows several mythological characters.

Cosmology: In Norse mythology there are nine world or Heimar, each joined to the other via Yggdrasil the world ash tree. Asgard the home of the Aesir, Vanaheim world of the Vanir, Midgard the middle world the world of men, Alfheim the world of elves or Alfar. Jotunheim world of giants or Jotun, Svalrtarheim, world of the dwarves, Nifelheim primordial world of ice, Muspelheim primordial world of fire, and Helheim, world of the dead, overseen by the Goddess Hel. Each world also had significant places within it. Odin’s hall was called Walheim or Valhalla where einhaejar who were the souls of the greatest warriors who were chosen by the Valkyrie. These warriors would help to defend the gods during Ragnarok. .

We’re still searching for a house mate. Now if you are willing, able, and ready to to do some hard physical labor like Stephen is doing to get the house and yard in shape, $100 will be taken off your rent until the work is completed, then the rent will go back up to $400. So you will be paying only $300 until the work is completed. .

Our friend Caitlin ni Manannan has people bringing her wood from when they prune their trees in their yards. And we are shortly going to be making rune Rune and Ogham sets. So if you’re local, bring us your branches. They should be at least the thickness of your thumb.

The 75,000 Verizon workers are on strike, and we stand with them. Solidarnosc! as the Poles would say. Verizon management, all Republicans, have made 100 unreasonable demands, and refuse to negotiate, but are paying scabs to cross the picket lines, and work for them. All the workers want, is to keep what they have, a small cost of living increase in wages, their health care, and their pensions. Management wants them to pay $100 per month for health care, while they get it free. If you were thinking of getting a Verizon phone and account, don’t, and do tell them why you aren’t, that you are boycotting them. If you have a Verizon account, close it, and go to another carrier, and tell Verizon why. If you want to piss off Stephen, abuse or oppress the workers. Tell Verizon that you refuse to do business with an employer who oppresses its workers.

Soon we may be selling pendants of the lady and the tiger worked in silver. If you reading this are a silversmith please call our toll free number 1-888-611-7982, and we’ll do business. We are offering a new service. For just $19.95, you can have spell-coaching. We will take you through the construction and performance of a spell. It’s very simple. If you want to perform a spell but you don’t think you know what you’re doing, hire us to coach you through it. The fee is payable to our PayPal accounts, to either abbotts_inn@yahoo.com or tezra.reitan@gmail.com .
We will coach you using strong ethics. Tegwedd has a couplet she will teach you which you can add to your spell that will ensure that it is ethical. Abbott’s Inn International School of Magick is over 40 years old, having been founded in 1970 in Berkeley, CA. It went cybernetic almost 9 years ago. Lizet has been helping us put the school on a more commercial footing, and with her inspiration, Tegwedd has started packaging the classes into manageable packets. Ms. Freeman did a 3rd website for us almost a month ago at http://abbottsinn.wordpress.com. From there, by clicking on two of the graphics, you can go to either of the other two sites: http://abbottsinninternational.com/ and http://abbottsinn.com/ . You can also get to our network http://abbottsinn.ning.com/ . With her help, we also salvaged some things from his old website, including the mission statement: The Abbott’s Inn International School of Magick aims to provide a gentle nurturing environment that promotes education in both the atmosphere and the specific tools of magick. Our research arm is called the Magickal Research Institute or MRI, not to be confused with the medical MRI, or Magnetic Resonance Image, which Tegwedd had on her right ankle about 10 months ago. Stephen and Lizet came up with the name almost 9 years ago. The three of us have become a very effective working team. Stephen has his cell phone, and we are both enjoying learning how to use our cell phones. His cell phone number is 916-467-6393. He’ll have access to the Internet on that phone. He says “I’m not very good at texting because of my glaucoma, so please be gentle with me.” Don’t forget to call 888-611-7982 for all your divination, learning class, and research needs.

Rack & Rune 2

Welcome to Abbott’s Inn Nordic Rune Corner 9! We’re so glad that you could make it. Be sure to check out the other Nordic Rune Corner groups on the other networks. Sorry to have been gone so long, but for a few months, we both had computer issues. Now they’re over with--knock on wood (ask Tegwedd how that started, she’ll tell you.); Tegwedd has a new computer now, and Stephen finally has his laptop back, so we’re going full speed ahead. Stephen wants to do a triforma trifecta on his Twitter page. He wants to do not only the Rune of the Day, Tarot card of the Day, but also the Ogham few of the Day. Few is the proper technical term for for the Ogham staves. Tegwedd got the term from Edred Thorsson’s Book of Ogham.

Back to Runes: Has Tegwedd told you her theory her theory about who had the Runes before Odin? She believes, and Donald Tyson backs her up on this) that women had them, specifically the priestesses of Nerthus and the Norns; and that the blood they were stained with was originally moon blood. Male Runemeisters are pretty doctrinaire and refuse to listen, but they had no cogent answer when she asked them where Odin got the Runes from. He didn’t create the Runes; nowhere in the Havamal does it say he made them. Runes don’t just magickally appear out of nowhere and nothing when you hang yourself on Yggdrasil. He got them from women’s mysteries. So this discussion is about Runology. Three great writers on the Runes are: Nigel Pennick, Edred Thorsson, and Donald Tyson. We each have a number of books on the Runes, One of Tegwedd’s favorite books in Stephen’s library on the Runes is the Little Giant Rune Encyclopedia of Runes. It’s short, but very fat, full of facts about the Runes.

Stephen first encounted the Runes when he was ten years old. His Grandmother Beatrice McCaulley introduced him to the Runes, and he ran with them. Very early on he figured out how to use the Runes together with the Tarot, which at that time, Grandma McCaulley had recently introduced him to. Today he uses four systems together: Runes, Tarot, Ogham, and Tattva, the oracular elemental system of Tibet. We offer to do these long readings with webcam on Yahoo IM and Windows Live Msgr. We’ll also offer later on this month, on our Ning network http://abbottsinn.ning.com, readings on Ning chat, the $32 fee payable to Stephen’s PayPal account at abbotts_inn@yahoo.com.

The knowledge of runology comprises a valuable area of Germanic spiritual and magickal studies and linguistics. The earliest Runic inscriptions date from around 150 CE. The characters generally stopped being used in favor of the Roman alphabet as Christianization took over central Europe in the 8th century until in the 11th century they were only used for special purposes. Until the early 20th century they were used in rural Sweden for decoration purposes and in Runic calendars.

The years for the various known Rune sets are as follows: Elder Futhark 150-800 CE, Anglo-Saxon Futhorc 400-1100 CE, and the Younger Futhark 800-1100CE. The 2 Futharks were used in Scandinavia, that is, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, and the Futhorc was used in England. The Rok short branch Runes were Swedish and Norwegian, and the Halsingr Runes. Marcomannic were medieval 1100-1500 CE. Dalecarlian 1500-1800. Then there were the Raetid, no dates given. Old Italic scripts such as the Etruscan alphabet may have given rise to the Runes. Anglo-Frisian Runes 5th to 11th centuries.

We’re still searching for a house mate. Now if you are willing, able, and ready to to do some hard physical labor like Stephen is doing to get the house and yard in shape, $100 will be taken off your rent until the work is completed, then the rent will go back up to $400. Vampires Amongst Us

Welcome to Vampires for Pagans! We’re glad you could make it! This is a brand new group, not a clone, so we shan’t be encouraging you to check out our other groups by that name, but do check out our other vampire groups: Kindred the Embraced and True Blood for Pagans. More will come. We’re happy you’re here to investigate the vamp in all of us. Historywise, there have been vampires in many countries and cultures: Ireland,Britain, Gaul (France) Eastern Europe, Africa, Scandinavia, other Celtic cultures, and even Native Americans had their versions of the vampire. The ancient Greeks had their lamias, the Germans their lichias, Eastern Europe had their Vampyr, and Asia their hungry ghosts. Vampires come in many shapes and sizes and many shades of power. Some vampires use ritual magick. Tegwedd knows one that doesn’t. He distrusts magick in any way, shape or form. That would be Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Clarence, a character in Blood Ties, a series based on Tanya Huuff’s novels. Monday, when the library opens after 2 weeks of being closed for renovations, Tegwedd is going to look up Tanya Huff on their computer catalog, and see if she can get any of her books. Those Canadians, man, they turn out quality stuff. Something about being cooped up inside for those long cold winters must do something to their minds. Others besides Fitzroy did not like magick. Some had direct Pagan origins Others were Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Shinto, and yes, sad to say, even Christians such as Nicholas Knight of Forever Knight. Many were famous personages of both exoteric and occult history. One of these was the Comte de Saint-Germain, according to the novels of Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. Another was the infamous Vlad Tepesh the Impaler. Paracelsus and even Pythagoras could have been vampires. Tegwedd thinks Doc Holiday was one. Stephen mentioned Jesse James (the outlaw, not the reality show star). There may also be a link with shamanism, since shamans are so involved with spirit magick. There is possibly a link to huna and to two of the several religions of the African Diaspora, Santeria and Umbanda.

As we said before, vampires can come in all shapes and sizes, male, female, music major, and even from the animal kingdom--vampiric dogs and cats. Not all vampires are blood suckers. There are also psychic vampires who drain their victims of life or psychic force. There may be more psychic vampires than blood vampires. Have you ever been to a party, seen someone sitting alone in a room, then when you leave the room, you feel drained as though you were about to pass out and fall down? That person could be a psychic vampire. There are also sexual vampires who suck out your sexual energy. In Tantra, men are taught to reserve their seed because it is felt that women sap the life force of men if they allow themselves to ejaculate. Not all vampires can be equated with evil. If you were a vampire, would you see yourself as evil? You might, if you had a really twisted self-image. You might glory in it. But not necessarily. The concept of such dualism originated with the Persians, and took over Christianity.

To a Pagan, a vampire is not necessarily even supernatural. It is just part of the natural process of evolution, and the food chain. Man, the highest mammal, preys on all the lower animals. What preys on man? Why are we so fascinated with the concept of vampirism? That’s a good question. Tegwedd will have to ask her psychiatrist. Our world seems boring and uneventful. The vampire world is anything but boring or uneventful. Vampirism can be found throughout the arts through films, books, theatre, dance , and music. There are at least five Tarot decks: Stephen has 4 decks, and Tegwedd has 3. They each have Vampire’s Tarot of the Eternal Night, the Tarot of Vampires from Llewellyn,, and Tegwedd has the Bohemian Gothic Tarot. Stephen has the Vampire Tarot and the Gothic Tarot of Vampires. Stephen wants the Bohemian Gothic Tarot, and ordered it from Beer’s Books. The deck is from the Czech Republic. We both enjoy doing readings with our Tarot decks. Tegwedd also has 2 very fat excellent books on vampires that Doc bought for her. One is Vampires: Encounters with the Undead. by David J. Skal, a noted author on the horror film genre and dark fantasy in general. It is full of literature about vampires and featuring vampires, stories ranging in period from the 18th century to 1997. The genre of these stories, at least the earlier ones, is known as Romantic Gothic. The other book about vampires Tegwedd has is the Vampire Book, an encyclopedic volume about vampires in popular culture. The cover features Kiefer Sutherland as the leader of a gang of young vampires in the 1987 film called “The Lost Boys.” The band Korn has some good vampire music. Some people claim that Abraham Lincoln was both a vampire and gay, or at least bisexual. Because of her education, when Tegwedd does research for a novel, she likes to delve into the traditional literature on the subject. This is why she wanted those books.

The deck is published by the Magic [sic] Realist Press, the Baba Group. They have 2 other decks which you may be interested in. We sure are. One is called the Tarot of Prague, the other the Victorian Romantic Tarot. In a way, it makes sense that they would name a deck after Prague. From thee Middle Ages to the Renaissance, until the Commies took over in 1945, Prague was a leading center for intellectuals, and for magick. The Golem came from the Prague Jewish ghetto. Johannes Dee and Edward Talbot Kelly did many alchemical experiments in their struggle to turn base metal into gold during the 1580s. Also during the 3rd Reich, Prague was a leading center for the underground resistance against the Nazis. There is a variant of the Faust stories that took place in Prague. If Tegwedd ever made enough money that she could travel, she would like to visit Prague to view the magickal sights. We will check out the website listed on Tegwedd’s deck, and see if there are any other decks that these people are selling. When Stephen talked about the Bohemian Gothic Tarot to the people at Beer’s Books, they knew all about the company; that’s how together they are, and why Stephen prefers to patronize them, rather than going the easy way out and ordering it from Amazon. He also wants to turn you, dear readers, onto them. Their phone number is 916-442-9475. Their address is 915 S street (that’s the letter, not the direction) Sacramento 95814. If you’re local, stop in. If you buy something before 1 pm, you get 10% off. Email is beersbks@pacbell.net.

There are many movies about vampires. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is perhaps the most romantic of the loot. Then there’s the original Dracula starring Bela Lugosi, the 1979 Dracula starring Frank Langella, When I was first doing my research for Blood of her Fathers, I viewed all the Hammer Dracula films starring Christopher Lee. There is also John Carpenter’s The Vampires, From Dusk Til Dawn 1 & 1, Fright Night 1 & 2, Once Bitten, Dead and Loving It, Moonlight the TV series, the movie 30 Days of Night, the series Forever Knight, Blood Ties, Salem’s Lot, Kindred the Embraced, and Terror at 30,000 Feet, aka Night Flyer or Night Flight, a cunning Stephen King yarn about a vampire pilot who flew from place to place, finding his victims at airports all over the world.

There is much literature about vampires in many cultures from the novels of Tanya Huff to the stories of the lichia in Germany. Vampires have been around us for centuries, maybe even millennia. Stories have been told about them and their predations for that long, first in hushed voices around the fire, then committed to paper and ink. What would you like to see this group cover re: vampires? You members have extraordinary powers. You do not need to be an admin to post. Give us your feedback. And, as always, go to http://abbottsinn.com/ , http://abbottsinninternational.com/ and our ning network http://abbottsinn.ning.com/ and call 1-888-611-7982.

What's New in our Neck of the Woods

I have some pretty exciting news for all of you. Our new website, http://abbottsinninternational.com/ is up and looking fabulous. We got it from Yellow Book, and they have been very patient with the number of changes that have had to be made. We are now on the Internet map, so to speak. There is even a phone number attached to the site that you can call for readings, classes, and research. 1-888-611-7982 is the number to call if you want a reading, a class, or research done. We have books that aren’t in any public or school library. As you no doubt know, books on magick, Paganism or Witchcraft either don’t get into the library in the first place because of all those selfish short-sighted jesoids out there, or they get stolen and not replaced.

We used to not charge for research, but now we must, because of the economy. I can’t even tell you how much because certain networks I’ll be posting this to won’t let me ask for money unless I’m rich enough to buy a pro-membership. What kind of logic is that? If I were rich enough to buy a pro-membership in Blessed Be UK or Avalon, I wouldn’t need to ask for money, now would I? It’s just like when I wanted a wheelchair ramp put in but I couldn’t because I rent and I’d have to pay. These are just two of the many ways in which the poor are unfairly picked upon in this country. If they hate us so much, why don’t they just gun us all down? It would be far more merciful. The only way in which you get “equal protection under the law”, is if you have a high powered attorney to plead your case. Again, the rich have that and we poor don’t. That’s why the rich don’t get picked on, and the poor do. I’m white, so I don’t have any advocacy group either.

But I will give you a clue as to what we do charge. There are 32 emanations on the Qabalistic Tree of Life. If you’re curious, call us at the number given above, or at 916-455-2267. There are also our three ning networks, http://abbottsinn.ning.com/ , http://abbottsinn93.ning.com/, and http://abbottsinninternational.ning.com/. Coming soon will be: http://dragonslair.ning.com/ . http://abbottsinn.ning.com is up now, and it has music and live chat (which is so much better than dead chat, don’t you think?).

Most exciting of all, I think, is the book. The title has been changed from Tarot for You or Tarot for Pagans, to “The Ultimate Guide to the Tarot.” Those who contribute get to have their websites posted in the websites section of the book. Stephen will be writing it, but I, phonetic and spell-bat that I am, will be making sure that the grammar is readable and fairly correct, and that the spelling and punctuation are correct. I see this book as being like those compendia the old doctors used to write with all the stuff, the tricks of the trade, they’ve learned over the decades of their practices in them to pass on to the young physicians who were up and coming in their trade. Doc used to tell me about them. I don’t know whether he had one in his library or not. Stephen, who is a master of divination, will be putting into this book all he’s learned about the Tarot in the over 50 years of studying and working with the Tarot.

Also in the next couple weeks or so, our webmistress Julie Maahs will have our other site up and running. Can you see now why Stephen is all excited? Our constellation will be a pentagram, with the Dragon’s Lair Ning Network as the center of the star. She mostly does taxes, so what is holding her up is the clients she must see daily. Also her husband, Walter Rhoads, the artist, has a show coming up very soon, and she helps with that.
So head on over to http://abbottsinninternational.com/ and/or call 1-888-611-7982 or 916-455-2267 and find out more about all we have to offer. We'll be waiting for your call.

Three Books a Must Have for Every Witch/Magician

You know, any member of this group can post stuff relevant to the group, and I don’t mean stupid jokes or videos. Relevant to the group is what to look for. Unless it’s a joke related to the subject matter, or a pun. There’s this woman who is posting irrelevant junk to our groups on Google. I don’t know how to get rid of her because she changes her email addy constantly. My pleas to her to change the subject matter of her posts to reflect the subject matter of the group have seemingly fallen on blind eyes. How do I get rid of her?

What would be relevant would be questions on magick, how to use it, what it’s good for, and other topics within the vast realm of magick. This is the main group, from which all the other teaching groups proceed. I may refer you to another of our groups on another network, where this question can be answered more easily. I won’t necessarily refer you to a Yahoo group because it’s easier to find groups on other networks, since Yahoo has made it so difficult to navigate within their platform. Another good topic would be to discuss your own magickal experiences. But please, although Stephen is an inveterate gamer, I’m not, so please have it be an experience you had in real life, not a fantasy roleplaying game. Hearing people discuss their experiences in a dungeon is rather like hearing some old fart talk about his latest operation. So unless you want me to go on for pages and pages about the operation on my ankle, and the two days I spent in the hospital last year, please keep your relating to real life experiences.

Another person we will be discussing at length will be Philip Emmons Isaac Bonewits, who has been a part of Abbott’s Inn from the getgo. These posts are mutual post between me and AD Stephen Abbott. For the most part, I type, and he dictates, although I do go off from time to time. We do it this way because I hate working on Stephen’s pos (piece of shit) computer. Imagine I’m working on a 6 almost 7 year old computer which crashes and freezes less than his 1 ½ year old computer. As a reminder, if you have Yahoo groups, and you get an indication of no new activity, post immediately because if there is no activity in 6 weeks. On the other hand, the Monty Pthon Fan Club, a group I have been trying to kill for months still hangs in there. So they do play favorites, and are not even handed. As far as Stephen is aware, they don’t censor, they just kill the group. Tell all your other friends who have Yahoo groups to watch their asses in this manner. We lost 9 groups because of this inactivity BS. For this reason and because of their difficult and draconian categorization process they have you go through, Stephen and I will add no new groups to Yahoo. We advise you to do the same. Go to one of the Ning sites, or Facebook. They are pretty good on Facebook. Good networks are: Paganspace.net, and .com, Wiccantogether.ning.com, Blessedbeuknetwork.ning.com, and Ceridwenscauldron.ning.com (Avalon). All of our Abbott’s Inn networks, of which there are 8. If you want to know what these are, Stephen is going to put all the inks in the links section. Still another good network is Myspace.com, Googlegroups.com, Tribes.net, and Hi5, to name but a few. If you have a Pagan-based network that you want to see our groups on, please let us know. We are still looking for new staff members of Abbott’s Inn International (the entire school)

There are three books which any aspiring magician/wizard/witch should keep up. They are: The Grimoire which is a catalog of spells, the magickal journal/diary, dream log/journal. This will be sent to Blogger, which is part of Google. In theory, there is also Adsense, which will supposedly send you money every time someone clicks on an ad by your blog. All right, well start with the Grimoire/BOS. Whether you call it one or ‘tother depends on whether you consider yourself mostly a Witch or a magician. They are basically the same book, basically a collection of spells/rituals. The BOS/
Grimoire is spells, rituals, and incantations you do or come up with. There is a difference of opinion between us whether you put your psychic experiences in your BOS/grimoire or your magickal diary/journal. He says BOS/grimoire, I say magickal diary. For all you Chartmed fans out there, their BOS is a great example. The four witch sisters Piper, Pru, who later dies, Phoebe, and Page, would constantly be adding nrew spells to their BOS. This constant adding of new spells made it transform from a large book to a huge tome of magickal knowledge and made it have a life of its own. Towards the end of the series, the Witch sisters added not only spells, but their own, making it more of a magickal diary. In Stephen’s own personal magickal experience, my magickal diary has been transformed into a series of magickal notebooks and diaries. No set only BOS. It is one of his goals to eventually have a BOS once again. It will be huge in scope.

One of the things Stephen loved about the Charmed BOS was that it was profusely illustrated. Many of the illustrations were created by the book itself, not the four Witches. Both Stephen and I highly recommrnf that you think about putting illustrations in your BOS/grimoire. In Charmed, the four Witches had illustrations of the demons they fought. You can substitute Gods and Goddesses. I would now like to talk about the privacy issue. Stephen thinks that most privacy issues are BS, while I think it’s up to the person involved. Stephen doesn’t mind sharing his magickal diary/BOS with other magickal people. I will share mine with a partner, or a student. That is all. Stephen puts on his BOS a frontispiece with “the magickal record of AD Stephen Abbott with a disclaimer saying that only magickal people he trusts will be allowed to see that.” Stephen and I are different individuals. He is not a very private person. I am in matters pertaining to my magickal practice. Both Stephen and I encourage you to use whichever magickal system floats your boat. We’re all different in the eyes of the Goddess. Show your differences and creativity. Don’t take what we say verbatim. Do your own research and experiment. We all make mistakes, we’re not infallible, and we’re not Gods and Goddesses yet. Your BOS/grimoire should be a compendium of all your magickal lore day-to-day, says Stephen. I don’t necessarily feel that way. I think you should add to it when the spirit or the Goddess moves you to. Besides recording spells, incantations, and rituals, you can also record magickal herbs and their properties, magickal oils and scents, amulets and talismans, semi-precious and precious stones, magickal tools and weapons, symbols and signs, magickal alphabets, magickal layouts such as the Tree of Life, the chart of magickal planetary hours, magickal and bardic songs, color magick, magickal names and numbers, and your favorite magickal myths and legends, If you’re not a good artist and know a Pagan artist you can hire hir to do illustrations. Stephen and I have a rather famous Pagan artist Walter Rhoads whom we also promote. If you’re in Sacramento, go check out Gallery 14th Avenue and 60th Street. For more information on the BOS/grimoire check out Mind-n-Magick.com. Get the free toolbar. There is a plethora of information on the BOS on this site. Check the Paganpedia on the site. Also check out the out the BOS groups on Yahoo and Paganspace.net. . . . . .

The magickal diary/journal is basically a lab notebook wherein you would refer to the spell or ritual you’re performing and what happened; the results thereof. If you got your spell out of a book such as the Element Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, you would copy the spell down in your grimoire/BOS along with any changes you felt it necessary to make. Some do fancy things like write it in Theban or some other magickal alphabet, but I don’t feel that’s necessary. For one thing, we are no longer in the Burning Times, despite what people like Sarah Palin have done to try to bring them back. For another, my writing is such that no one will be able to read it anyway. You’ve heard of calligraphy, well, I do cacography or ugly writing. You can also describe other uncanny experiences you’ve had such as visions obtained during meditation, etc. It can also be called the magickal record. What to put in your magickal diary/journal/record: your daily magickal/psychic experiences; astrological aspects of the day. For this purpose, get yourself a Llewellyn astrological calendar. There are others, but I find that Llewellyn’s is the best. Magickally related dreams can go into this book. Times and duration of the event is very important. Write your events marking all the senses including psi. Example: what did you feel during the experience? Were you fearful, exhilarated, peaceful, calm, angry or agitated?

The third book is the dream journal/log. The dream journal/log/record is about all dreams that you have, not just obviously magickal or spiritual dreams. I like to put down the sun sign and moon sign, but this is a habit I got into when I was in the OTO. Every morning Stephen and I have a session in which I write down our dreams in our dream journals. This keeps the dreams fresh in our minds, which leads to the technique Stephen uses to recall his dreams. As soon as he wakes up, he says out loud several times, “Low Self, I will recall my dreams.” I prefer to say just as I’m going to sleep, “Conscious mind, move aside. I want to talk to my subconscious. I recall all my dreams.” I prefer to put it in the form of an affirmation. My shaman teacher, LadyofLov, taught me that technique. I should write her and tell her I need a refresher course. Stephen’s technique is Huna from Max Freedom Long’s work. There is also a guy named Arnold Steiger who wrote a lot of books on psychic and Pagan topics,. Scott Cunningham also wrote about Huna, leaning heavily on Long’s work, as well as his own research. Long’s work is a little dated. Cunningham brings a freshness to the work. When I get the refresher course, I will post it here and in our sister group Dreamwork for Pagans and all its numbers. Try both techniques and see which one you like. Or use both, what the heck?

Dell has really messed up Stephen’s work. Don’t buy Dell. Also, if you’ve been watching those Blue Hippo commercials, don’t do business with Blue Hippo either. The CEO is a cokehead and a ripoff artist. His computers, if you even get one from him, suck out loud. If possible, they’re even worse than Dell. We mention these things because we care about our Pagan community, and we want people to know what is going on both with us and in the world at large. Doc said that 1 in 6 Dell computers (of both kinds) don’t work right out of the box. Stephen must’ve gotten that one in six because he’s had nothing but trouble with it from day one about 17 months ago. We were working on a new blog for Keen and lost it because Bailee sat on the keyboard, and made it crash twice.

Yahoo has been revamped completely. I got the new Yahoo toolbar, and added a bunch of our stuff to it. The new Yahoo has retooled both the toolbar and the home page, where you can add your own stuff. Also Yahoo has improved its messenger in the video talk aspect. We are still dissatisfied with Yahoo’s draconian policy of deleting certain groups after just 6 weeks of inactivity. It would be ok if they were even handed about it, but they seem to only delete certain groups, while others they leave alone. For this reason, and because of their draconian categorization process, we will not be putting any more groups on Yahoo. Google has also revamped their toolbar and googletalk.

Do not do business with IMVU. The new management of IMVU is a bunch of right-wing Republican Puritans who are utterly anti-Pagan, anti-women and anti-sex. I had my bank disallow IMVU from deducting money from my checking account. Fully 40% of the people on IMVU are Pagans. If all the Pagans left, we might not put the network out of business, but we could definitely make it feel the pinch. I think that even the Pag-Symps would leave after the Pagans left, especially the ones interested in cybersex. Charles, also Carey, the new CEO is a conservative Baptist, who has no business running a network like IMVU. In the name of “making the Internet safe for kids”, he and his henchmen are making IMVU no fun for anyone. I feel that having an age restricted section is protection enough for the little nippers, and that adults should have a section where they are totally free to do as they will. Stephen is furious, but I am indifferent. IMVU was nothing to me but an exercise in frustration that I spent way too much money and time on. I think it’s a waste of time and money, but Stephen lives most of his life on IMVU, and so is really bummed out by these developments. They have blocked out all the cool body enhancements and furniture Stephen got from Twinkle so they can’t be seen by anyone but him. IMVU is being investigated by: the FBI, Better Business Bureau, FCC, and FTC for its fraudulent and unethical business dealings. They have a file on IMVU the size of my 3rd exhubby, and he is big. He’s gotten even larger since we’ve split up. It makes me wonder why Doc had the heart attack, and not him. If you have any fraud complaints, contact the FBI Fraud division and the Better Business Bureau. .

I have just joined Stephen on KEEN. I am also doing readings outside of KEEN. I charge $15 for a fifteen minute reading. I got a webcam, and a mic/headset, so will be able to do readings on Yahoo and Windows Live as soon as they get hooked up. I am hunting for a publisher, since FireDrake’s Weyr unfortunately got closed down. Readings and classes are our currency. I am also helping Stephen promote our friend Walter Rhoads’ art, their art gallery Gallery 14 and Julie’s tax service. I’m doing everything to raise money except sex. I refuse to get involved in porn, and I don’t have a very sexy voice.

Stephen wants to thank all of you for calling him at (land-line) 916-455-2267 or
(cell) 916-612-2504 and ordering either a divination reading or a class for just $31.95. With webcam and voice on Yahoo IM, Windows Live Msgr, or Skype, it’s almost like being here. For the reading, you got to choose a deck, method, or tool from a vast array of decks/methods/tools. For the class, you got to choose from a myriad of topics in the vast area of magick. Some of you couldn’t decide between a reading and a class, and so for just $59.90 you knew you could have both.a reading and a class; how perfect is that? You can have a reading then in the class find out how he did it. Or you can have two classes, or two readings as long as they are on two separate and different topics/questions. And thank you too for using and spreading around his Zodiac referral number 1-800-280-8496. You told your friends, relatives, in-laws, neighbors, coworkers, colleagues, teachers, kids’ teachers, fellow parents in your PTA, bus drivers, beauticians, and anyone else we might have left out. If you know of any other categories I may have omitted , do tell me. We would like to have other sites where we can have our groups.

So basically what we want is some action from you people. We want your feedback. We know we can always count on Dylan to give feedback, but he’s a partner in this venture. How about the rest of you? This is supposed to be a cooperative effort here. For those of you who are on Red Light, Stephen is doing readings for the cost of 10 rays, and classes for 20 rays. Red Light is a network that is more liberal than IMVU has become, since that Charles guy took over.

Rack & Rune

Welcome to Abbott’s Inn Nordic Rune Corner 8! We’re glad you could make it! Be sure and check out the other 7 Nordic Rune groups. The Runic system we will be discussing here is the Elder Futhark. It is the best known, and the one that is the most information on. There are 24 Runes in the Elder Futhark, arranged in three sections called Aetts. There are 8 Runes in each Aett, but I do not know whether Aett is precisely cognate with the English eight or not. They are called Freyja’s Aett, Hagalaz’s Aett, and Tyr’s Aett.

Do we have books for you! I’ll start with Runic Palmistry by Jon Saint-Germain. Somehow I doubt that his parents gave him that name. It’s way too serendipitous to be believed that that this guy could be related to the Count de Saint-Germain who is one of the Ascended Masters, as well as the hero and main character of Chelsea Quinn Yarbro’s novels about a 2000 year old vampire. This is an extremely interesting book. It made ever so much more sense than other books on palmistry or even my palmistry deck. From this book, I discovered that I have a Feoh-Fehu rune right on my Hoenir mount. That’s right under the middle finger. So that would mean that my wealth lies in my philosophical pursuits. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, magick was part of philosophy.

Sirona Knight wrote The Little Giant Encyclopedia of Runes, and it is full of treasures. I want to try out some of those rune spreads on friends. It’s 510 pages of magick. Stephen considers this one of the best books on the subject. She also includes a wonderful glossary. She talks about runic dancing. She also talks about runic telepathy cards. She also talks about runic yoga, runic healing and protection, and stadha, the runic circle; making a runic ring, making runic talismans, and using runes to charge essential oils, from almond to violet.

Stephen discovered the runes at age 11, a year after he discovered the Tarot. He taught himself by means of a book whose title he can’t remember. It took a couple to five years for him to embrace the runes.

I was 27 when I discovered the runes, and because I am half Norwegian, and half English, the runes called to my blood. After all, both my Viking and Anglo-Saxon ancestors used runes, perhaps not in a magickal way, but used runes as an alphabet. My friend Layla taught me a technique for making magickal pictures using the meanings of the Hebrew letters. The technique is to make a sigil-picture. I converted the technique into making pictures out of the runes. I taught it at a workshop at Ravenwood one year. That was sure fun.

Here’s how you do it. You’ll need paper, crayons or felt tip markers, and a pencil. Take your pieces of paper, and write a short sentence expressing your desire. Cross out any repeated letters, and convert your statement into runes. Some of them may be repeated, cross these out. Write down the meanings for these runes and on the other piece of paper, draw the pictures that these meanings represent, and form these into a scene. Work with these images until you like the scene they form, then color the scene using your felt tip markers, crayons, colored pencils, or any other method of coloring the scene that you desire. To charge the sigil, do it in your usual way, building up some passionate emotion, have sex, masturbate, or pass it through the four elements. I asked Stephen how to charge a sigil. He asked “Do you have jumper cables?”

Stephen makes bind-runes (he prefers to call them “bound-runes”) by tossing them and if two or three stick together, he makes them into bind or bound runes. Stephen wondered aloud where the condom goes for the threesome. I made bind-runes out of salt dough, which is a kind of “Play-Doh”. You can make all sorts of things out of salt dough. If you are into ceremonial or Enochian magick, you can make the “wax” tablet from salt dough.

Stephen waited until he was 20 to read the runes because he wanted to do research. He researched what each rune represented and meant. He researched who promulgated the runes and why. He researched how to construct them. Like a child practicing hir capital letters, he would write them over and over, row after row after row.

I just drew 3 runes: Ansuz, Hagalaz, and Tiwaz. Two thirds of these runes have their own families or aetts. Ansuz is the divine order that stays put no matter what. Hagalaz is the rune of friendship, stability, and bonding. “From primal chaos comes transformation.” Tyr or Tiwaz is the rune of spirituality and faith. I wanted to integrate these three meanings into one cogent summing up statement, but Stephen asked “Why do you want to do that?” I answered “Because when I read for people, they usually want a cogent summing up statement.” “That isn’t necessary.” But people, if you can think of a good summing up statement, please post it here.
.
I got the itch to do another reading. On my blue lace agate, I got Dagaz, Hagalaz again on clear quartz crystal, and on rose quartz, Laguz. Dagaz embodies the ritual fire of the hearth, and the mystical light that can be used in magick. Hagalaz represents friendship, stability, and bonding. Right now I’m thinking in terms of a chemical bond. Laguz represents the primal waters from which all rivers of energy flow into the ocean, which is Oneness.

Stephen the Runemeister tells me I should’ve drawn 9 runes, so since I’ve already drawn 6, I shall draw 3 more. I drew Ansuz, Laguz, and Eihwaz. Eihwaz was on top of Laguz as a bind-rune. We’ve had Ansuz and Laguz before. So what do they mean all told? Eihwaz is the elk rune, a symbol of protection. It is also communication through the three realms. Ansuz is again the divine order that stays put no matter what. Laguz represents the primal waters from which all rivers of energy flow into the ocean, which is Oneness. I interpret these three runes as meaning that the divine order communicates with the primal waters. There, I managed to put those three runes into a single unifying pithy cogent sentence.

There are two sets of cards Stephen thinks I should tell you about. One is called “The Rune Vision Cards.” There is one for each Rune, and a deity is shown on each card. I never dreamed that the Norse pantheon was so extensive. It also gives many different attributes, such as colors, herbs, animals, and trees. I call them correspondences, but Stephen calls them attributes. I think I have more authorities on my side, who also call them correspondences.
Rune Magic [sic] by Nigel Pennick 1992 from Aquarian Press looks like a very good book. Stephen’s read it all the way through. It gives a great glossary, and has a chart showing the runic half-months. There’s a chart showing the colors, the trees, oils and a section on making runic talismans. Stephen highly recommends this book.

Newsflash: Altavista’s Babelfish has now been added to Yahoo’s toolbar. Go to Altavista Babelfish and they will offer to put it on your Yahoo toolbar. Log in, restart, and it shall be done onto you.

I’m on KEEN now, so call me. I changed the spelling of my name slightly so that the non-Welsh speakers could pronounce it. It’s spelled Teiweth ShadowDancer. My number is 8342. My extension is 03877627 I’m sure it means something qabalistically, but I haven’t looked it up yet in Godwin’s. The site is www.keen.com, so go there and look me up. Stephen’s British friend Peter is threatening to call me, but he hasn’t called me yet. He has only 6 hours yet tonight, before he’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning. I refuse to be a slave to the telephone as Stephen is, so I’m offline from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. I need my beauty sleep. I don’t know whether it does me any good cosmetically, but it does my moods a world of good, as well as my physical body. If you need a clairvoyant, call on AstroWing 3323. For exact dates, call Stephen6580.

We’re working on Abbott’s Inn International. I changed the Griffin Network this morning so that it can take groups. We’re looking for a housemate now, so if you are in the Sacramento area, and need a place to live, or are thinking of moving to Sacramento and need a place to live it is only $400 + 1/3 of the utilities. It is perfect for someone who either has a low paying job or is on Social Security or SSI. You can have cats here. Please no smoking. We can share food if you are an omnivore, as Stephen and I are.

We’re both behind on our rent and are offering readings and classes for $32 each. For $60, you can have both a reading and a class. It’s payable through Paypal. My account is tezra.reitan@gmail.com. Stephen’s account name is abbottsinn@gmail.com. We’re the contact people for Isaac. We encourage people to buy his books to pay his medical bills. Isaac’s books, while they have his distinctive sense of humor, also are very informative. For readings and classes, call either Stephen at (landline) 916-455-2267 (cell) 916-612-2504. With webcam and voice on Yahoo IM , Skype, or Windows Live Msgr, it’s almost like being here. I don’t have my webcam hooked up yet. We also need staff members, who if they work as hard as we do on Abbott’s Inn International, will receive readings and classes for a year and a day.

If you are in the Sacramento area, go by 14th an 60th to Gallery 14. It is run by Walter Rhoads and Julie Maahs. They have exhibitions by local artists each month.

Well that’s all for now. We’ll be back soon.
